The idea behind selling books directly to the public is not a new one but was introduced by Don Nelson Publishers in 1999 in order to increase turnover as the booktrade was going through a recessionary period.
Within 18 months we realised the full potential of the new enterprise and began recruiting agents in real earnest. We registered the name of the Book People in 2001 and it became a stand alone business. The turnover has significantly increased beyond our expectations year by year
Here at the Book People our main aim is to make top quality books affordable for everyone. We don’t stock thousands of titles, instead we carefully select every title we sell in order to bring you the very best. We are then able to offer you every one of these hand-picked titles at unbelievable prices.
So how can we afford to offer such great savings? It’s simple. Every title we offer is purchased by us in large quantities and we sell directly to the customer with no middle men and therefore lower overheads.
A new concept of sales at schools was introduced in 2007 in Cape Town and has proved unbelievably successful with the result that we intend opening in other regions particularly Gauteng where we will soon establish a warehouse, situated in Midrand.
Despite the downturn in the economy the Book People has prospered and we look forward to the future with huge confidence.
